The Tesla Wall Connector is the home charger most Tesla owners end up choosing, and it quietly works for plenty of non-Tesla EVs too. Here is a plain rundown of what it is, how fast it charges, and what a tidy Auckland installation involves.
What the Wall Connector is
The Wall Connector is Tesla's own wall-mounted home charger. It delivers Level 2 AC charging on a dedicated circuit, far quicker than a standard wall socket, and connects to your home Wi-Fi for scheduling, monitoring and over-the-air updates. You buy the unit from Tesla, and a registered electrician installs and certifies it.
How fast it charges
On a typical single-phase Auckland home, the Gen 3 Wall Connector charges at up to about 7kW, adding roughly 50 to 70 km of range per hour depending on the car. Plug in overnight and you wake up full. Homes with three-phase supply can charge faster again.
Does it work with non-Tesla EVs
Yes. The Wall Connector uses a Type 2 connector, the standard across New Zealand's EVs, so a BYD, Kia, Hyundai, MG or Polestar can charge from it too. If you do not drive a Tesla, a universal Type 2 charger is sometimes the better value, and we are happy to compare the two for your situation.
What a tidy installation involves
A compliant install runs a dedicated circuit from the switchboard, sized and protected correctly, with the Wall Connector mounted where you park. Older boards sometimes need an upgrade first so they can carry the extra load. The job is tested, commissioned and certified on completion.

Do I need a switchboard upgrade for a Wall Connector?
Sometimes. Older fuse-style boards may need upgrading to handle a 32A charger safely. We check the board before quoting.
Can you install a Wall Connector I already bought?
Yes. Supply the unit and we install, wire and commission it on a compliant dedicated circuit.
